Elder Potter, of the Old School Baptist Church, preached several times in Broad Street Baptist Church this week. He is a strong expounder of the views of his church, and the attendance upon the services mentioned was unusually large.

Mr. E.J. Armstrong, who left Luray 10 days ago or more to visit friends in Bridgewater, is detained there, as we learn by letter, by a severe attack of the grippe. It will doubtless be several weeks before we may hope for his return to Luray.
The Council of Luray has elected Mr. F.H. Tharp to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Mr. Booton. The council has elected Mr. Chas. A. Miller to succeed Mr. Booton as Mayor.
The Murray Bros., sons of our county man, Jos. R. Murray, Esq., who have been in Montana for several years are now at home enjoying a season of well-deserved rest. They expect to return in the spring.
The dwelling house situate on the Paul Henkel farm on the river was destroyed by fire Dec. 23. It was occupied by Mr. John D.S. Henkel who lost much of his furniture by the fire.
