October 18, 1990 — Richard Bowes of Yorkshire, England, a specialist with the Taylor Bell Foundry of London, worked on refurbishing one of the huge bells in the Luray Singing Tower.
Clappers in the 47 bells were reshaped because of wearing on one side.
In the 53 years since the carillon was dedicated as the Belle Brown Northcott Memorial, it was the first major work done on the bells since the company installed them in 1937.
