Age 70, Elkton, Va.
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Robert Hendriksen who passed away on October 26, 2023 at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was 70 years old. He was a long-time resident of the Shenandoah Valley and was a mason by trade; and recently retired from KVK Specialties in Shenandoah. He was born September 15, 1953.
He dearly loved his sons and had a true gift of gab. He loved to kick back during family reunions with his brother and talk about the old times when they were kids and what they were up to. He loved to fish and canoe on the Shenandoah River, grilling out and spending time with family, especially his grandkids.
For hobbies, Bob was always good with his hands and could make anything; popsicle sticks to model houses, airplanes to bird houses. He also enjoyed coin collecting and sharing the knowledge of what he had and what they were worth. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
He is survived by his two grandchildren, Hannah and John Hendriksen; his five brothers, Alex Hendriksen and William Hendriksen, both of Bettendorf, Iowa, Donald Hendriksen of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Mitchell Hendriksen of Sparkill, New York, and Richard Hendriksen from Stockholm, New Jersey; niece and nephew and caregivers, Nona and Dale Haggerty; along with other nieces and nephews and their children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Reinier Hendriksen and Petronella De Bruyn Hendriksen; wife, Darlene Hendriksen; sons, Robert Joseph Hendriksen and John Michael Hendriksen.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday November 2, 2023, at the Newport Christian Church Cemetery in Page County with Pastor Danny Herring officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by the Kyger Funeral Home in Luray, Va.
