Calvin Monroe Shifflett

Age 92, Elkton, Va.

Calvin Monroe Shifflett, 92, of Elkton, passed away October 27, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.

Calvin was born January 15, 1931 in Rockingham County, VA. He was the son of the late Herbert Wise and Beulah Cordelia Shifflett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Herbert (Buddy) Shifflett; sister, Catherine (Kitty) Lawson; and brother-in-law Newman Lawson. 

Calvin was a member of the St. Peters United Methodist Church near Elkton and proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a Jumpmaster with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg North Carolina. He was a member of the Avis O. Comer VFW Post 8613 in Shenandoah and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He retired from Reynolds Metals at age 55, and then continued to worked tirelessly in his church and helping family, friends, and neighbors with just about anything they needed fixed or built. He was a devoted husband, and an amazing dad, granddad, great-granddad and friend and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.  

On May 1, 1954, he married Loraine Virginia Lam Shifflett who survives.  Also surviving is a daughter, Debra Clatterbuck and husband MW; grandchildren, Dr. Sarah Soper and husband Toby, Andrea Skaflen ED.S. and husband Marcus, Dr. Lora Cantwell and husband Andrew and Jonah Clatterbuck; two special grandsons, David Bragg and wife Londia and Nathanial Clark; great-grandchildren, Cass Skaflen, Aurora Skaflen, Roe Skaflen, Katherine Skaflen, Theo Skaflen, Nathanial Soper, Liam Soper, Cordelia Soper, Silas Cantwell, Asher Cantwell, Arlo Soper, Evie Cantwell and Ezra Cantwell; longtime companion of Herbert “Buddy” Shifflett, (Pat). 

The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, October 30, 2023 at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton.  

Pastor Julian Shifflett will conduct the funeral service 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Burial will follow in the East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Harrisonburg with Military Honors by the Avis O. Comer VFW in Shenandoah.
