March 19, 1964 — It would appear after months of work by the Springfield PTA and others that there will be a light at the Kimball railroad crossing.
The Kimball crossing has been a most dangerous one for many years.
A.S. Brown, resident highway engineer of the highway department, said he does not know when the signals will be installed but that approval has been given by the Highway Department, the Norfolk and Western Railroad and the Bureau of Public Roads.
The crossing is on Va. 658, about four miles northeast of Luray and is known as the Kimball crossing. Two years ago in January, a school bus narrowly escaped being hit by a train.
Mrs. Fred Vest, wife of a Shenandoah Park ranger, heard the story from her daughters and brought it to the attention of the PTA at Springfield.
