Age 88, Luray, Va.
Samuel Edward “Ed” Winkler, 88, of Luray, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
He was born on February 8, 1937, in Luray and was a son of the late Samuel Arthur Winkler and Eva Mae Ruffner Winkler.
Ed had worked as a carpenter his entire life and at Northern Virginia Community College for his last 15 years before retiring.
On January 31, 1970, he married Velva Margaret Aleshire Lang Winkler, who preceded him in death in 2013.
Ed is survived by a son, Samuel “Scooby” Edwin Dean and fiancée Pam Kisling of Luray; three grandsons, Blake Dean and wife Samantha of Luray, and Bryton “Boo” Dean and wife Danielle, and Blake Kisling, all of Stanley; and two great-grandchildren, Tate Dean and Thea Dean.
He was preceded in death by four stepchildren, Judy Dinges, Mary Breeden, Sandra Shifflett and Danny Lang.
He is survived by two stepchildren, Jerry Lang and Martha Knight. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Susan Fox and Nancy L. Coffman.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m on Tuesday, December 23, at the Bradley Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24, at the funeral home by Doug Purdham. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
The family extends special thanks to his caregivers, Linda Kling, Rachel Brown and Felicia Griffith.
