Accident report

LURAY, April 29 — A Page County man was pronounced dead in the early morning hours on Monday following a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a residence in the 400 block of Pass Run Road. The Page County Sheriff’s Office reports “there appears to be no foul play involved,” however the incident remains under investigation.

“At this time, [there] does not appear to be any criminal act, but the investigation is still pending on lab analysis,” Page County Sheriff Chad Cubbage told Page Valley News on Tuesday.

When police arrived at the residence, “deputies located a male subject inside of the residence suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” reads an April 30 report from PCSO Public Information Officer Lisa Procacina.

“Despite life-saving measures from PCSO deputies, Page County EMS and Luray Volunteer Rescue crews, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced dead at the helicopter landing zone,” the report continues.

PCSO investigators determined that there was “no foul play” after arriving at the scene and assessing the situation. Initial reports from the sheriff’s office indicated that deputies “responded to the Pass Run Road area located in Luray for a report of a gunfire incident” shortly before midnight. That initial report went on to state that, “After conducting a canvass of the area, deputies cleared the scene. There is no active shooter or threat to the community!”

Officials are not identifying the victim at this time. The body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
