WISE — The Shenandoah 12U All-Stars won four of five games over a four-day stretch to claim the 2022 Babe Ruth Softball Tournament championship on July 3 at Veldon Dotson Park way down in Wise, Va.
The 12U All-Stars represented the Shenandoah Recreation League well in Wise as they won their first two games by a combined margin of 41-4. Shenandoah defeated Craigsville, 26-1, in both team’s tournament opener on Thursday, June 30, before beating the host team of Wise, 15-3, in Game 2 on Friday, July 1.
Shenandoah would play the ultimate tournament runner-up, Peachtree, over the next three consecutive games — winning the first, 4-2, on Saturday, before losing a Sunday morning game, 13-5, and then taking the championship in dominating fashion that afternoon, 15-0.
Caelyn “KK” Lucas was selected as the state tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
The 12U Virginia state champions will now advance to the Babe Ruth softball regionals in Clemons, N.C. on July 13-16.
