TREASURE COAST, FLA., July 31 — The Shenandoah 8U All-Stars remain undefeated after three games in the first two days of competition at the 2021 Babe Ruth World Series in Treasure Coast, Fla.

Shenandoah went 2-0 on Saturday after defeating Wildcats Extreme by way of the slaughter rule, 16-1, in a 9 a.m. game, before finishing off the day’s double-header at 1 p.m. with a 17-11 victory over Lutz Lightning.

In Saturday’s first game, Shenandoah scored four runs in the second inning and 11 runs in the third to take a 15-1 lead into the fourth. After keeping their opponents scoreless in the top of the inning, the Shenandoah All-Stars added one more run in the bottom of the fourth to close out the game with a 15-run margin. Avery Hilliard was selected the “Player of the Game” for the second consecutive game.

In the afternoon’s contest, Shenandoah scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to a 10-2 lead. Both teams scored three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth to make the score 17-9 heading into the fifth inning. The visitors added two more runs, but Shenandoah, as the home team, did not need to bat in the fifth and closed out their third World Series win 17-11. Macie Mowbray was selected as the “Player of the Game.”

As of Saturday, here are the 2021 World Series standings:

• Shenandoah (3-0)

• Royal Palm Beach (2-0)

• Lutz Lightning (1-1)

• JPRD Eastbank (0-2)

• Wildcats Extreme (0-3)

After playing once on Friday and twice on Saturday, Shenandoah only has one game scheduled for Sunday, before starting bracket play on Monday — and Sunday’s game is against the only other undefeated team in the 8U softball tournament. Shenandoah (3-0) squares off with Royal Palm Beach (2-0) at noon on Sunday.

The Shenandoah 8U All-Stars are making history, as the first team in that age division of softball to represent the Shenandoah Recreation League at the World Series. While the local league has sent several teams to Florida in recent years, only one team — the 2016 12U softball all-stars — have come home as World Series champions.

Shenandoah reached this year’s World Series after outscoring their opponents 37-2 in the state tournament they hosted earlier in July.
