Shenandoah retirees honored

July 5, 1990 — Clarence Edwards, retiring Shenandoah mayor, and Vivian Gaynor, retiring town clerk- treasurer, were honored at a surprise banquet Friday evening at Southern Kitchen in New Market.

Hosted by Shenandoah Town Office employees, the event drew some 50 co-workers, relatives and friends and marked some 40 years of public service by the two retirees.

Edwards was employed by IBM in Washington, D.C., until his retirement in 1972, when he and his wife, Louise, returned to Shenandoah.

Under the 10-year leadership of Edwards, numerous accomplishments were realized and although at times the going got rough, his will to do his best for the town never faltered.

Mrs. Gaynor had 30 years of service and said her experiences with fellow employees were just like a large family, sharing their joys and their sorrows.
