WISE — The Shenandoah Recreation League chalked up two state champions over the weekend as the 10U All-Star softball team captured the 2022 Babe Ruth Softball Tournament championship on July 2 at Veldon Dotson Park way down in Wise, Va. The next day, Shenandoah’s 12U All-Stars also captured a state title. (see Related Articles below)
The 10U All-Stars swept all four games they played, outscoring their opponents 53-12. Shenandoah opened up the tournament with two big wins last Thursday, June 30 — defeating Peachtree, 20-5, in the opener at noon, and then routing the host team Wise, 15-2, just a few hours later.
On Friday, July 1, Shenandoah’s 10U All-Stars beat Rockville, 7-1. On Saturday, July 2, they claimed the state championship with an 11-4 win over Wise.
Shenandoah’s Brynlee Wolfe was selected at the 10U state tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
The 2022 Babe Ruth 10U Virginia State Champions will now advance to regionals.

8U All-Stars finish 3rd
Shenandoah’s 8U All-Stars began the 2022 Babe Ruth state tournament at 2-0. In Thursday’s opener, they blanked Peachtree, 10-0, before taking down the host team Wise, 8-0, on Friday. Shenandoah opened up the tournament outscoring their opponents 18-0.
Saturday’s opponents would prove to be tougher competition as Shenandoah suffered two straight losses to exit the tournament — a 13-3 loss to Manassas Saturday morning, and a 16-9 loss to Glen Allen on Saturday afternoon.
Manassas beat Glen Allen, 15-2, for the state championship on Sunday.
