MANASSAS, June 29-July 2 — Shenandoah’s 8U All-Stars were the second softball team from the local Babe Ruth league to earn Virginia runner-up status at the state playoffs in Manassas last weekend. Shenandoah’s 10U softball All-Stars also earned a second-place finish on Sunday.
The 8U All-Stars started the state tournament on Thursday and Friday with huge, slaughter-rule wins of 15-0 over Greene County and Manassas #2, respectively. Both games were called in the third inning.
In Saturday’s doubleheader, Shenandoah lost to Rockville, 23-9; and then beat Manssas #1 by one run in a tough, 10-9, struggle to advance to the state championship.
The title game was an extra-innings battle that saw Rockville come out on top, 12-9.
The Shenandoah 8U All-Stars ended the state tournament 3-2 at the E.G. Smith Baseball Complex in Manassas.
