Age 86, Elkton, Va.
Shirley Jean Dearing, 86, of Elkton, passed away at her home on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Shirley was born March 12, 1939, in Shenandoah, and was the daughter of the late Charles Russell and Dorothy Marie Comer Smith.
In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Lynn Dearing; sons, Greg Dearing, and an infant baby boy; sisters, Joyce Warren, Sue Elswick, Margaret Smith Campbell, June Gochenour, Laura Lillard.
Shirley grew up on 2nd Street in Shenandoah, where she was raised to work hard and love deeply. Shirley worked hard for years as a cashier, and later retired from Rite Aid. Mrs. Dearing was also a devout Christian, and would worship our Lord at the Church of Faith. Outside of the church, you would find Mrs. Shirley in the kitchen, where she thrived to make the best food for her family. Shirley loved and cherished every moment with her family, especially her grandkids. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Dearing is survived by her daughter, Sherri Carper and husband, Scott; son, Jeffrey Lynn Dearing, and wife Billie Jo; grandchildren, Julie Dearing, Rebecca Ann Dearing, Faith Carper; and great-grandchild, Brantley Morral.
A private graveside service will be held at Elk Run Cemetery with Pastor Carter Dean officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, Va.
