~ Report provided by Stanley Volunteer Fire Department
STANLEY, Feb. 28 — Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit reported that the Stanley Fire Department responded to a house fire at 12:13 p.m. on Wednesday at 206 Masonic Drive off East Main Street. Firefighters were on the scene within three minutes of the alarm and fire was already coming out of the downstairs kitchen area and spreading into the second floor of the two-and-one-half story house.
Chief Pettit stated that it appears the fire started in a wall between the kitchen and another room, but the investigation is continuing. Estimate of the damage is not available at this time, but Chief Pettit stated that several rooms suffered fire and water damage.
The home is owned by Joe Kisselback, who was not home at the time of the fire. However, his son Theodore was in the structure and discovered the fire. After several attempts to extinguish the blaze, he was forced outside. The house is insured, and the American Red Cross is assisting with temporary living arrangements.
It took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, and firefighters remained on the scene for about 90 minutes. Traffic was rerouted by the Stanley Police Department and the Stanley Public Works Department after East Main Street (Business 340) was closed due to hose lines in the street from hydrants.
Six Stanley units and 15 firefighters responded to the call and were assisted by a ladder truck from the Luray Fire Department. The Luray Fire Department also responded with an engine to the scene to cover any other calls. One unit from Page County EMS also responded, but no injuries were reported.
