Stanley Homecoming kicks off Wednesday with carnival, parade and fireworks set for Saturday

STANLEY, June 27 — The Town of Stanley is set to pop on Wednesday with the launch of the 53rd annual Stanley Homecoming. Four days of festivities are planned, from the opening of the carnival at Ed Good Memorial Park at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28 to the fireworks finale at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 1.

Special live entertainment is planned for 7 p.m. each evening on the stage of the Pioneer Bank Performance Center. For elderly and disabled visitors, rides will be provided to the stage area at the far end of Ed Good Memorial Park. Carnival rides open at 6 p.m. each evening.

In addition to carnival’s opening on Wednesday evening, with its rides, games and food vendors, the week’s live entertainment kicks off with the annual Miss and Master Stanley Homecoming Pageant on June 28. Multiple prizes are available with Miss Stanley Homecoming winning a crown, embroidered sash and $500. First runner-up will receive a medal and $200, while second runner-up gets a medal and $100. Awards will also be presented for Best Hair, Best Dress and Best Personality, as well as People’s Choice. There will be two age categories for young misters and 10 divisions for girls.

Thursday night, features the Promised Land Quartet at 7 p.m., followed by the Stanley Homecoming “I’ve Got A Voice” competition on June 29. Along with a trophy, the top three finishers in the vocal competition will win cash and recording time at a local studio, as follows — 3rd place wins three hours of recording time and a $100 cash prize; second place receives 5 hours of recording time and $250 in cash; and first place wins 10 hours in the studio and $500 in cash. Winners will be announced Saturday, July 1.

Thursday night (June 29) is also KID’s NIGHT at the carnival,

with $5 off wristbands for rides.

On Friday night, The New West Band will hit the Pioneer Bank stage at 7 p.m. on June 30, followed by the Crossroads Band at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 1.

Saturday also features the annual parade, beginning at 5 p.m. Line-up is at 4:30 p.m. on Chapel Road. To place an entry in the parade, call the Town Office at (540) 778-3454. Saturday’s festivities will conclude the four-day festival with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.

In addition, the Stanley Homecoming Committee will be holding a raffle for a Field & Stream Blade 80 Kayak. Tickets are $5 each, or three for $10, or 10 for $30. The drawing will be held in Saturday, July 1. Tickets may be purchased at the Town Office, and you do not need to be present to win.

If that isn’t enough fun, then come by the dunk tank and watch local celebrities get wet…or try your luck at the Dime Pitch, or simply sit down and enjoy an Elephant Ear. There’s something for everyone at the 53rd annual Stanley Homecoming, Wednesday through Saturday, June 28 through July 1, at Ed Good Memorial Park, 322 East Main Street in Stanley next to the railroad tracks.
