Stanley man plays in Navy band

May 12, 1989 — Musician First Class Bradley M. Corbin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orea Corbin of Stanley, performed at a dinner in Beijing, China, honoring senior Chinese officials. The event was hosted by President and Mrs. Bush.

Corbin performed with Country Current, the U.S. Navy Band’s country-bluegrass group. He is the group’s steel guitar and mandolin player. In addition, he performs with the group’s acoustic bluegrass ensemble.

Formed in 1973, the seven-member group is recognized for its versatility in all aspects of country and bluegrass music. The musicians have appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, the Wheeling Jamboree, Nashville Now and the Academy of Country Music Awards show.
