Stanley preparing to buy Shuler’s Pool

Swimmers enjoy Stanley's Hawksbill Pool to beat the summer heat.

June 21, 1990 — The Town of Stanley is very close to purchasing the Hawksbill Recreation Park. Thursday night, the council voted unanimously, with Louis Bosley abstaining because of a potential conflict of interest, to have Town Manager Martha Graves search out the best loan package available.

The Hawksbill property, known to many as Shuler’s Pool, was initially leased for one year in the summer of 1988. Because the project was still in its planning stages in 1989, the lease was renewed.

The town has been waiting to file for a matching grant from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
