Stanley’s Co. 24 answers 49 calls in September, $170,000 in fire damage and three injurie

STANLEY — Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit reported that the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department answered 49 calls for the month of September. Chief Pettit reported there were 19 emergency calls, 12 medical calls and 17 non-emergency calls. Total calls for the year-to-date are 465.

A breakdown of the September calls include 12 medical calls, six vehicle accidents, four calls for lock outs, three structure fires (two houses, one motel), three smoke investigations, three standby control burns, two fills, two standbys for fireworks, two grass fires, two calls for electrical lines down and one call for LP gas leak, remove tree from roadway, fire safety presentation, 9/11 ceremony, heat investigation, skid loader fire, fire inspection, check chimney, control burn and standby landing zone.

There was $170,000 in fire damage for the month. One house and one skid loader were total losses due to fire. Three cars and two pickups were totaled due to a vehicle accidents. Two people received injuries due to vehicle accidents, and one person was injured due to fire. 

An average of 18 members responded to each emergency call and an average of 11 members responded to each medical call. The most members on an emergency call were 23, and the least was three.  

There were 622.6 miles placed on apparatus. The department assisted the Stanley Rescue Squad on 10 calls, Page County EMS on four calls, Luray Fire Department on three calls, Shenandoah Fire Department on two calls, Shenandoah National Park on one call and Valley Transport on one call. The department was assisted by the Page County EMS on one call, Shenandoah Fire Department on one call and Luray Fire Department on one call.

Members responding to the most emergency calls were Ethan Knight 18, Chief Pettit 16, Zach Croft 12, Colin Huffman 12, Mike Lloyd 12, Brennan Stoneberger 12, Mitch Martin 10 and Caleb Purdham 10. 

Members answering the most medical calls were Chief Pettit 10, Mike Lloyd 6 and Ethan Knight 5.

Members answering the most non-emergency calls were Chief Pettit 12,  Mike Lloyd 7, Jason Housden 4 and  Colin Huffman 4.
