Supervisors consider adding short-term rental tax

• FEBRUARY 22, 1990 — Video stores and other short-term rental businesses feel “singled out” by a tax proposed last week by the Page County Board of Supervisors. Their reaction came after the supervisors authorized County Attorney Rodger Smith to draft a proposal for a one percent tax on short- term daily rentals. Falling under the proposed tax ordinance are videotape and canoe rentals and businesses that rent out various other equipment. “Eight percent of the businesses’ receipts has to be in rentals,” District 2 Supervisor Charles Griffith explained Monday. The levy will again be discussed in either March or April.
