Turner ties for 11th among 41 golfers at Region 2B tournament

LHS junior leads Luray after carding 87 at Heritage Oaks

HARRISONBURG, Oct. 7 — Luray High School junior Blake Turner lead the Bulldogs with a low score of 87 at the Region 2B golf tournament held Monday in the “Friendly City” at Heritage Oaks. Clarke County would top the six-team field by one stroke over Stonewall Jackson to claim the Region 2B golf title as a team. Clarke’s Jonah Ziercher took top individual honors, after carding a 77, to become the Region 2B champion.

After posting a team score of 340 two weeks prior at Heritage Oaks to claim the Bull Run District title, the Bulldogs finished with a 385 on Monday to come in sixth at the region level. Turner’s 87 was good enough to tie for 11th place among 41 competitors in the field.

Rigdon Wright of Fort Defiance finished as the region runner-up with an 81, followed by teammate Tyler MIller with an 82.

Other local golfers who qualified for the Region 2B tournament included:

  • Landon Wood – LHS (94) – tie for 25th
  • Matthew Owens – LHS (99) – tie for 32nd
  • Camden Boyed – LHS (105) – tie for 35th
  • William Judy – LHS (108) – 37th
  • Logan Foster – PCHS (111) – 38th
  • Hayden Parlett – LHS (114) – tie for 39th
