Bulldogs already halfway through season with final home match Monday

LURAY, Sept. 5 — The Luray Bulldogs made a strong showing on the links Thursday, with a head-to-head win over the visiting Generals of Stonewall Jackson. Sophomore Will Judy shot a team- and match-low of 41 on nine holes, his best performance of the season. With only four matches left before the Bull Run District tournament at Heritage Oaks on Sept. 23, the Bulldogs will host their final home match at the Luray Caverns Country Club on Monday, Sept. 9.
“The Bulldogs are clawing their way through the Bull Run District with their eyes set on making it into the 2024 VHSL 2B Regional tournament at the end of September,” LHS head golf coach Gwen Burley stated. “The Bulldogs are halfway through their season and this defeat over the Generals of Stonewall Jackson is pushing the wind in their sails to boost their confidence for their future matches.”
On Thursday, junior Blake Turner turned in the second-lowest score for Luray, with a 42 on the front nine; while junior Matthew Owens shot a 47. Finishing out the Bulldogs’ top six scores recorded for the match were sophomore Camden Boyd (50), sophomore Landon Good (52) and junior Hayden Parlett (55).
Overall, Luray won the head-to-head match by five strokes. The Generals’ top performance was carded by Aiden Springer with a 43, followed closely by Evan Bowers (45) and Jackson Saeler (46). Rounding out Stonewall Jackson’s top six shooters were Blake Street (51), Ben Kenkind (58) and Bubba Tran (63).
The Bulldogs will host Bull Run District foes Madison and Page County at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9 at the Luray Caverns Country Club. During the final home match, Luray will be honoring its three seniors.
The Region 2B golf tournament will also be held at Heritage Oaks in Harrisonburg on Sept. 30, one week after the Bull Run tournament at the same site on Sept. 23.
