Route 611 closes at tracks as railroad crews install new rails and ties
~ PVN staff report
SPRINGFIELD, Nov. 8 — At 6 a.m. on Monday morning, Vaughn Summit Road will be shut down at the railroad tracks. Route 611 will be closed to through traffic, with warning signs at intersections with Route 340. (A map below shows new traffic signage as of Monday.) The hard closure is expected to last four days through Thursday, Nov. 14.
Safety Services & Supply, a subcontractor for the railroad, recently notified the county of the planned closure aimed at installing new rail and new ties. The company’s rail team is expected to begin work early Monday morning on Veterans Day and conclude the project within four days.
“This will be a hard road closure; no traffic will be able to cross the tracks during this time,” stated Geoff Reeder, who sent a Nov. 1 email to Page County Administrator Amity Moler.
As the map below shows, there will be warning signs to those turning off Route 340 onto Vaughn Summit Road (just south of the recycling center and Springfield Elementary) and Sunnyview Drive (just north of Springfield Elementary). There will also be signage on Vaughn Summit Road near the construction site at the railroad crossing.
