VFW Post 621 celebrates 20th

October 22, 1964The public is cordially invited to attend the observance of the 20th anniversary of the organization of VFW Post 621 at the Post Home on Saturday.

A brief program is scheduled for 8 p.m. with Department Commander Vernon Ross Long as guest speaker. Dancing will begin at 9 p.m.

VFW Post 621 was organized Oct. 24, 1944, with the following officers: Commander E.L. Moses, Luray; Jr. Vice Commander Robert L. Sampsell, Luray; Adjutant-Quartermaster W. Henry Huffman, Luray; Post Advocate and Guard Walter N. Broyles, Stanley; Chaplain and Officer of the Day Richard G. Hopper, Luray; and Surgeon R.H. Llewellyn, of Broadway.

In later years the Post purchased the abandoned Carl’s Chapel property east of Luray and converted it into a Post Home where their meetings and other functions are held.

  1. On behalf of the members of Miller-Campbell-Baker Post #22 of The American Legion, I wish Comer-Jones Post #621 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars congratulations on your 20th anniversary. Post #22 looks forward to continuing our working relationship for at least another 20 years. Congratulations!
