Weekly YouTube show dives into various issues, sites and events in the Page Valley
By Randy Arrington
LURAY, April 2 — This week we visit with a Luray woman in her Main Street home, where she was sitting upstairs at her desk when tragedy struck on Feb. 7, 2023. Lauren Canaday suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, and her heart stopped beating for 24 minutes.
While 90 percent of people survive a heart attack, less than 10 percent survive a sudden cardiac arrest. We’ll learn about the difference between the two events, and just how lucky Lauren is to have suffered no brain damage after her heart stopped for 24 minutes.
We will talk about those 24 minutes, when she was clinically dead, the local first responders that helped save her life, and the inspiring manuscript that was born from that life-changing event. Canaday’s book Independence Avenue talks about her transformation from a person wrapped up in individualism, to one embracing the importance of community.
(Page Valley Livin’ ~ Episode 64 was recorded Monday, March 24, and first aired Wednesday, April 2).
Coming up on Page Valley Livin’… next week we’ll be talking with a local utility lineman that survived a tragic accident, and soon we’ll be promoting an upcoming fundraiser for The Rec.
The aim and purpose of these videos is to provide more information about more things that make up the wonderful place we call the Page Valley of Virginia. Serious issues will be handled seriously, while lighter issues may offer more opportunity to have some fun. There is no theme or agenda other than promoting the Page Valley, and trying to better inform the people who both live here and those who love to visit.
