BRHP founder to speak on mission; hear stories of mountain families forced from their homes this Saturday at Town of Shenandoah Museum
SHENANDOAH — The Town of Shenandoah Museum and Welcome Center will host a film viewing and a special guest speaker this Saturday, Jan. 18 that focuses on the families that were forced from their homes during the formation of Shenandoah National Park.
The event kicks off at 2 p.m. with a viewing of the film Shadows (2020). The 30-minute film is the story of the establishment of Shenandoah National Park and the stories of the Blue Ridge Mountain people who were forced to leave their homes and heritage. The film is being shown with permission by Wild Song Cybil Productions.
Following the film, Bill Henry, founder of the Blue Ridge Heritage Project (BRHP), will be speaking about the mission of the non-profit organization. The BRHP was founded in 2013 to honor the families who were displaced from the mountains for the creation of the national park.
This FREE event is open to the public.
The Town of Shenandoah Museum and Welcome Center is located at 507 First Street in Shenandoah.
