Wayne Calvin Short, 79, of Luray, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020.
He was born on March 23, 1941, and was a son of the late Calvin Wilson Short and Geneva Pearl Seal Short.
Wayne worked in maintenance for Shenandoah National Park, retiring in 1996 with 33 years of service. He was a member of the Luray Church of the Brethren.
On May 2, 2015, he married Martha Ann Alger Short, who survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Linda Hilliard of Luray, and “Muffy” Short of Luray; a son, Calvin “Jug” Short of Luray; two brothers, Glenwood Short of New Market, and Ronnie Short of Luray; a sister, Bonnie Plum of Luray; three stepsons, Clifford, Richard and James; three granddaughters, Jennifer Carr and Megan Ballew, both of Virginia Beach, and Lindsey Hilliard of Timberville; two grandsons, Takoda Bradley of Luray, and Keith Short of Shenandoah; five step grandchildren, Daniel, Breanna, Lorin, Arica and Christopher; and seven great-grandchildren, Aidan, Liam, Julian, Alexis, Josiah, Atarah and Thomas.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Morning Star Lutheran Cemetery in Luray by Pastor Frank Painter.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Luray Volunteer Fire Department, 1 Firehouse Lane, Luray, Va. 22835; or to the Luray Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 266, Luray.
