August 21, 1890 — Ensconced in a beautiful valley, near the base of the Blue Ridge Mountain, in full sight of one of the most magnificent views of mountain and vale in Virginia, is the young and vigorous town of Sands, on the Shenandoah Valley Railroad, six miles south of Luray.
Although but a few years old, its admirable location and splendid surroundings have already made it the center of a fine trade in bark, railroad ties, and other timbers, which with its stores and shops give employment to its live and energetic citizens.
