Age 92, Stanley, Va.

Austin Junior Good, 92, of Stanley, passed away at his home on Friday, December 15, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children.

Austin was born on March 8, 1931, in the Basin Hollow section of Page County. He was the son of the late Leonard C. Good and Florine Bradley Good.

On January 4, 1951, he married his wife of 72 years, Ethel Bailey Good, who survives. 

He is also survived by a daughter, Grovenia G. “Tina” Ruud (Paul) of Wilmington, NC; and a son, Austin Jeffery “Jeff” Good of Stanley.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by a son-in-law, David S. Short; a granddaughter, Ashley S. Borgie (John) and two great-granddaughters, Emma Rose and Mary Grace Borgie, all of Gum Springs, VA; and a grandson, Dr. Stephen D. Short (Chelsea) of Charleston, SC.

Mr. Good was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa G. Short (Dave); two sisters, Geneva Cubbage and Allita Hilliard; and five brothers, Paul “Doc” Good, Charles Goode, Ray J. Good, Z. Shirley Good and Franklin D. Good.

Mr. Good was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was employed by Avtex Fibers in Front Royal for 36 years, where he became foreman of the Power House. After the plant closed, he worked 16 years for Aramark as manager of Lewis Mountain.

Austin never met a stranger. He enjoyed meeting new people and learning about different cultures. He was an avid lover of games, crossword puzzles, a good cup of coffee and the morning paper.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, at the Bethlehem Independent Christian Church in Stanley by Pastor Andy Seastrom, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Jenkins Family Cemetery in Stanley, with military honors by the VFW.

Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Good, Frank Shenk, Dennis Bailey, John Borgie, Carson Good and Kevin Bailey.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Independent Christian Church Building Fund.

Arrangements are being made by The Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, Va.
