Below average rain, above average heat in June

Year-to-date rainfall 1.68 inches below average

STANLEY, July 1 — Total rainfall in the Page Valley for June was 1.38 inches, or 2.67 inches below the June average of 4.05 inches. The calendar year-to-date rainfall total is 17.65 inches — or 1.68 inches below average. The wettest June on record was 1972 with 11.02 inches. The driest occurred during 1999, with only 0.82 inches of rain recorded.

Temperatures for the month of June were above average. The mean temperature for the month was 75 degrees. The 56-year average mean temperature for June is 72 degrees.

The average afternoon high temperature for the month was 85.9, or 2.5 degrees above the average high temperature of 83.4 degrees. High temperatures for June climbed into the 90s on 10 days, the 80s on 16 days and into the 70s on four days during the month. The high for the month was 97 degrees on June 22.

The average daily low temperature for the month was 64 degrees, or 3.3 degrees above the average low temperature of 60.7 degrees. Low temperatures for the month were down into the 40s on one day, the 50s on six days, the 60s on 18 days, the 70s on four days and in the 80s on one day during the month. The low for the month was 47 degrees on June 1.

The warmest June dates back to 1973 with an average high temperature of 88.3 degrees. The coolest June on record was in 1982 and 2003, with an average high temperature of only 79.3 degrees.

The peak wind gust for the month was 29 mph on June 5.

Records broken during June 2024:

June 18 — maximum low temperature of 70 degrees; previous record of 69 degrees in 1975.
June 22 — maximum high temperature of 97 degrees; previous record of 95 degrees in 1988.
June 23 — maximum low temperature of 80 degrees; previous record of 74 degrees in 1996.
June 23 — maximum high temperature of 94 degrees; previous record of 93 degrees in 1975.

NOTE: June 23 low temperature of 80 degrees tied the 56-year record for the warmest night set back on July 17, 1988.
