~ PVN staff report
LURAY, July 1 — On Monday, Dr. Antonia Fox, superintendent of Page County Public Schools, issued a letter to students and families announcing an adjustment to the 2024-2025 school calendar. Four early release days for students are being added to provide additional professional development time for teachers and staff.
The Page County School Board approved the action at its June 27 meeting in order to meet new state mandates related to the Virginia Literacy Act (VLA) passed in 2022 by the Virginia General Assembly. The Act includes the “goal to improve literacy outcomes for students” and requires hours of additional professional training. Implementation of the VLA requirements begins this upcoming school year.
The four additional early release days are:
- Wednesday, October 23, 2024
- Wednesday, December 11, 2024
- Wednesday, February 5, 2024
- Wednesday, April 30, 2024
Students are released at 12:30 p.m. on early release days, with lunch and transportation provided.
The first day of school for the 2024-2025 school year is Monday, August 26.
