Ritenour to make transition at the end of April

LURAY, April 16 — In a letter sent out to staff, faculty and families on Tuesday afternoon, Dr. Antonia Fox announced that Derek B. Ritenour will become the next principal of Luray Middle School at the end of April. The superintendent of Page County Public Schools also stated that Ritenour brings seven years of administrative experience and currently serves as assistant principal at Central High School in Woodstock.

“He brings a variety of educational experiences to the position and his skills will ensure Luray Middle moves forward and that we continue to provide the very best experience to students, staff, and families,” reads the superintendent’s April 16 letter.

The life-long resident of Shenandoah County previously served as an agriculture teacher and graduated from Shenandoah County Public Schools in 2002. He then earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a minor in Educational Studies from Ferrum College in 2006 and a Masters degree in Education (MSEd), focusing on Administration and Supervision, from Shenandoah University in 2017.

For the past four months, Clint Runyan, the PCPS Director of Secondary Instruction, has served as acting administrator of the middle school since the suspension of the previous principal. Heather Pearson was placed on paid administrative leave on Thursday, December 14, 2023. Following a two-month investigation by school officials, the superintendent reported on Feb. 12 that Pearson would “not be returning to LMS.”

Ritenour will now have the final month of the current school year to familiarize himself with faculty, staff and operations before preparing for the next school year.

“Mr. Ritenour and his wife, who is an elementary school teacher, have two children together,” reads Dr. Fox’s April 16 letter. “Mr. Ritenour is excited to join the LMS family and get to know and serve the Page County community. Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Mr. Ritenour to his new role as the Principal of Luray Middle School.”

  1. I’m glad we finally acquired a Middle School principal.
And recently, the local DEMONcrats had a pep talk by Sen. Tim Kaine where they complained about being “demonized” locally.
It’s easy to “demonize” these people. Just tell about the things they’re doing and voting for.
Like for example this piece about schools:
