Support Staff and Transportation Staff recognized as well

LURAY, May 6 ― Page County Public Schools held their annual Employee Recognition Dinner on Monday evening. Teachers, Support Staff and Transportation staff were honored after being selected by their peers for their excellent performance, dedication, and efforts to go above and beyond the call of duty for the betterment of our school system.

The ceremony recognized the Teacher of the Year and Support Staff Member of the Year from each school in the division, Transportation Employees of the Year from both the northern and southern ends of the county, as well as the announcement of Division Teacher of the Year, Division Support Staff Member of the Year, and Division Transportation Members of the Year (Northern and Southern).

This year’s Division Teacher of the Year is Greg Morrison, a fourth grade teacher from Springfield Elementary School. Mr. Morrison has 28 years of teaching experience in Page County and is a member of the National Education Association, the Virginia Education Association, the Springfield Elementary PTO, the Springfield Leadership Team, and the division’s strategic planning committee. Mr. Morrison is a veteran of the United States Air Force (thank you for your service).  Outside of school, Mr. Morrison is an active member of Rileyville Baptist Church, serves on the Feed the Lambs committee working with local churches to supply weekly food bags to students, and is a volunteer for the little league.  Mr. Morrison “believes that all students can learn and it is his job as a teacher to find ways to reach each one in a personalized way.” Mr. Morrison will serve as the division representative for the Virginia Teacher of the Year competition.

The Division Support Staff Member of the Year is Pam Nichols, an Instructional Aide serving at the Page County Technical Center. She has been with Page County Public Schools for 25 years beginning in 1999, and working at LES, LMS, LHS and the Technical Center. She has served as an advisor to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club at LHS, Student’s for Christ at LMS, and has been a volunteer for proms, homecomings, senior activities and the athletic department. Mrs. Nichols is also a Sunday School teacher and she shared, “Throughout my career in PCPS, I have made many life-long friendships, worked under fantastic leadership, and been blessed to be a part of many remarkable students’ lives. PCPS is very dear to my heart, and I have spent many nights in prayer for our schools, faculty and students.”

The Division Transportation Employees of the Year are Lois Good and Wendy Williams, both dedicated bus drivers. Mrs. Lois ‘Pumpkin’ Good was selected as the Luray-Northern Area Transportation Employee of the Year, and Mrs. Wendy Williams was selected as the Page-Southern Area Transportation Employee of the Year.

Staff had this to say about Mrs. Good: The relationship that she has with her students has been built on trust, love, and accountability. She is a fair and loving driver that always puts safety above everything else. Her students respect her and she respects them. When Pumpkin had to go on sick leave, her students were distraught because of how much they care for her and will miss her. This speaks volumes to the relationship she has built with them.

Staff has this to say about Mrs. Williams: Wendy goes above and beyond for each student and always makes sure all kids are safe. She is very reliable, a team player, and caring. She is flexible to schedule changes and assists whenever possible doing things such as double runs, field trips, or covering athletic events. She wants what is best for all our students and supports all schools across the division when needed. Wendy is a dedicated employee!

Employees were recognized for their outstanding achievements by Dr. Antonia Fox, Division Superintendent; Dr. Paul Johnson, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Business Operations; Gabby Ryman, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, Innovation, and Accountability; Patty Secrist, Chief Financial Officer; Pam Hall, Supervisor of Transportation; and building level administrators.

Page County Public Schools is fortunate to have such dedicated, loyal employees. Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients.

  1. Mr.Morrison was one of our family’s favorites at Springfield, and they have many good ones. This guy worked with me while I tried to help educate my daughter at home during the COVID shutdown. Great to work with, great in the classroom…the kids love him! Well-deserved.
