June 12, 1992 — Kathy Shifflett Arrington, a sixth and seventh grade teacher at Grove Hill Elementary School, has been named the Page News and Courier’s 1992 “Teacher of the Year.”
The award, including a certificate, an engraved plaque and a $500 check, was presented to Mrs. Arrington by PN&C Editor John Waybright.
Mrs. Arrington also has been chosen as Page County’s nominee for the Virginia Teacher of the Year Award, sponsored by the State Department of Education.
Nominations are made by school principals and parent- teacher organizations. The committee selected two teachers to receive special honorable mentions.
They are: Anne Lou Smith, a fifth, sixth and seventh grade special education teacher at Stanley Elementary; and Anita Shaffer, a third grade teacher at Shenandoah Elementary.
