Age 90, Elkton, Va.
Bessie Sylvia Meadows, 90, of Elkton, passed away Friday, October 23, 2026 at Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg. She was born February 17, 1936 in Page County and was the daughter of the late Sherman and Lucy Meadows.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George “Dinky” Meadows; sons, Delaney Meadows, Gary Meadows; daughter, Nancy Meadows Eppard; sisters, Pearl, Norie, Vida, Minnie, Kathy; brothers, William Meadows, Manul Meadows, Mitch Meadows, John Meadows, Tommie Meadows, Walter Meadows, Preston Meadows and Steven Meadows.
Bessie attended Jollett Mission and Bear Lithia Baptist for many years. She was a homemaker and loved gardening and her flowers. Bessie loved to cook and spend time with the children and grandchildren; many she raised as her own, and was happiest when she had a full house. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Bessie is survived by her children, Larry “Cat” Meadows, Eddie Meadows, Junior Meadows and wife, Tammy, Dianne Morris, Malcolm “Mack” Meadows, Eugene “Buck” Meadows and companion, Frances; grandchildren, Anita Freeze, Larry ”Scooter” Meadows, Eva Meadows, Steven Meadows, Patricia Morris, Carl Meadows, Christy Gissing, Breoncha Meadows, Lisa Shifflett; 17 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m., Friday October 30, 2026 at the Shenandoah Assembly of God, followed by a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Carter Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Jollett Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, Va.
