Bulldogs, Panthers advance to region cheer competition and place seven on All-District squad

ELKTON, Oct. 19 — Both the Luray High School and Page County High School cheer squads advanced to the Region B meet next week after Wednesday’s third and fourth place finishes, respectively, at the Bull Run District cheer competition held at East Rockingham High School.

The hosting Eagles took top team honors with 207.5 points to claim the Bull Run title. District runner-up Strasburg came in second with 178 points. Both squads dominated the All-District team with East Rock having three first team selections, while Strasburg had two.

The third-place Bulldogs (161 points) also had two first team, All-District selections in Isabella Jennings and Catie Couper. Luray’s Lilly Alger and Jasmine Faison were named to the All-District second team.

The fourth-place Panthers (156.5 points) placed one member on the All-District first team, Caleigh Brown, while teammates Bekah Fox and Brooke Johnson were named to the second team.

The Bull Run District Cheerleader of the Year was East Rock’s Haven Merica. She was joined on the All-District first team by fellow Eagles Reagan Voight and Lille Belle Merica — Copper Stepp and Emily Washington earned second team honors.

The top four teams in the Bull Run competition — East Rock, Strasburg, Luray and Page — now advance to the Region B cheer competition at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Stuarts Draft High School.

Central (130 pts) and Clarke (114 pts), placing fifth and sixth respectively, did not advance.
