Carolyn Fay Short

Age 73, Bishopville, Md.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn Fay Short, age 73, of Bishopville, Md., who departed this life peacefully on October 25, 2026. 

She was born on October 4, 1953, in Stanley, VA, to Elizabeth Meadows Warnken and the late Kirby Karl Gray.

Carolyn dedicated her life to her family and her work, serving as a maintenance worker for Trimper’s Amusements and the Town of Berlin.

Carolyn is survived by her beloved mother, Elizabeth Warnken; her son, Kirby E. Short and wife Jessica of Bishopville, MD; a sister, Diane “Sue” Stroupe and husband Kenny of Stanley; a brother, Curtiss “Danny” Gray and wife Sheryl of Stanley; a sister-in-law, Kristine of Tennessee; and two grandchildren, Kirby Short Jr. and wife Colleen, and Kayla Lewis and husband Charles. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Nathanal Short, Peyton Lewis and Tatum Lewis, who brought immeasurable joy to her life.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald D. “Ronnie” Gray, who passed away on October 4, 2025.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 6, at the Stanley Fire Hall.
