Page County’s popular volunteer organization, Community Works 4Page, celebrated its 2nd anniversary of nonpolitical, civic programs in Page County with a Volunteer Appreciation event at the Center for Performing Arts of Luray.
Roughly 50 volunteers and supporters turned out for the August 10th Sunday evening event, which included dinner, performances by local musicians, and expressions of appreciation both for the hard-working volunteers, and – no less – to our extraordinary Local Coordinator/Day-to-day Manager, Sara Finn.
Spearheaded in the spring of 2023 by Page County Democrats and just four initial volunteers, the group has grown to nearly 100 volunteers from across the political spectrum: Republicans, Independents, Democrats, and those otherwise disengaged from party politics. The programs Community Works 4 Page (CW4P) has delivered over the past two years and will continue to deliver in the future include, for instance, supporting testing the South Fork for harmful E Coli bacteria; art classes at the Luray Recreation Center/Living Legacy; classes for jail inmates on basic life skills; the recent “Life Stories” training program; the ongoing “Soup for Seniors” food program; a public forum on preventing wildfire risk; advising high school students on budgeting in the “real world”; working with the Sheriff’s Office on suicide prevention in coordination with the American Society for Suicide Prevention; and much, much more.
To continue its widely-praised efforts, Community Works 4Page relies on contributions, which are matched dollar for dollar by the Rural Urban Bridge Initiative, a national, nonprofit organization that initiated the Community Works program and now has county chapters across the country.
Recognizing the team’s positive impact on Page County, Valley Health and Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative have both provided financial support, but further support from County residents is essential to sustain us into the future.
