Cross country update ~ Page’s Hensley and Kite flying to Top 10 finishes, along with Luray’s Seal

LURAY, Oct. 3 — Page County High School’s Summer Kite and Aaron Hensley recently earned three Top 10 cross country finishes over a period of two weeks.

Most recently, Kite finished fourth among 22 runners at a quad meet in Harrisonburg on Sept. 27. The Panthers traveled to the Blue Streaks’ home turf for the first time in more than a decade last Wednesday. East Rockingham and Mountain View also participated in the meet. Kite posted a time of 21:45 in the 5000 meter run, while sophomore Maryn Cave placed 12th (24:43). The top three runners were all from Harrisonburg.

At the same meet, sophomore Aaron Hensley also finished fourth in the boys’ meet, which featured 50 runners. Hensley posted a time of 17:49, while Asher Kite placed 14th (18:49).

On Sept. 16, Summer Kite finished eighth among 75 competitors in the Augusta Invitational hosted by Wilson Memorial, with a time of 22:04. Hensley placed ninth among 128 male runners with a time of 18:04.

Three days earlier, Kite crossed the finish line in second place among 30 runners during a quad meet at Central of Woodstock with a time of 21:08. Cave placed ninth in the girls race (23:50). Hensley placed third among the 41 boys competing, with a time of 17:40. Asher Kite placed seventh (18:30), Sean Cave was ninth (18:55) and Gavin Barlow was 10th (18:55).

On Aug. 26, Kite finished 15th in a competitive field of more than 100 runners in the 10th annual Central High School Cross Country Invitational at Fairview Park in Woodstock. Her time was 20:43 in the three-mile run. Hensley came in 28th (17:41) on the boys’ side.

The Panthers will run next on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at Strasburg. 

Seal also has three Top 10 finishes

Luray High School’s Wyatt Seal finished 10th in the highly competitive Central Invitational on Aug. 26. The junior posted a time of 16:47 in the three-mile run. He was followed by LHS senior Eli Jones, who came in 18th (17:12).

Seal took eighth at the Augusta Invitational among 128 runners with a time of 17:58 in the 5000 meter run at Wilson Memorial on Sept. 16. Jones placed 20th (19:10). Seal then took fifth place (17:53) at a five-team meet Luray hosted Sept. 20.

During that home meet, Luray senior standout Davey Johnson reappeared and took third place with a time of 17:26. The Luray boys cross country team took first place in the five-team meet. Jones placed sixth (18:02).

Luray’s girls cross country team is being lead by junior Annah Whitmer and sophomore Carolina Wood. On Sept. 20, they finished second and third, respectively, with times of 21:36 and 21:56 at the Luray meet. At the Augusta Invitational on Sept. 16, they finished 11th (22:48) and 22nd (23:58), respectively, among 75 competitors. At the Aug. 26 Central Invitational, they finished 17th (20:56) and 27th (21:38), respectively, among more than 100 runners.

Luray will compete next at the New Market Battlefield course for the Mt. View Invitational at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7.
