Snowy road

February 21, 1964 — The eighth snow of the winter began falling here about noon Tuesday and had reached a depth variously reported at 14 inches before it ceased early Wednesday morning. The wind-driven snow drifted as much as three and four feet in some sections of the county.

A number of events scheduled for Tuesday night were canceled. All Page County schools were closed Wednesday. State Highway crews and municipal employees were still busy yesterday opening roads and streets. Snow removal from streets in downtown Luray got under way Wednesday morning.

The snow was mixed with sleet followed a rain Tuesday morning. The snowfall became extremely heavy around 4 p.m. and continued with an intensity seldom witnessed in the valley area.
