Age 70, Shenandoah, Va.

Faron Ray Slye, 70, of Shenandoah, departed this life February 1, 2024. Mr. Slye was born June 11, 1953 to the late Louis Marcus Slye and Rose Mary Sipe Slye of Elkton.

Faron graduated from Elkton High School in 1971. He worked in the Norfolk Naval shipyard for a few years and then enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 1976, where he served as Staff Sargeant and MP. He was honorably discharged in September of 1985.

After his military service, Faron continued to serve his community as both a sheriff’s deputy and investigator for the Page County Sheriff’s Department until his early retirement.

During his lifetime, Faron enjoyed and was proficient at a variety of hobbies. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, horticulture, reading and fishing. He had an eye for detail and no matter what the project, he completed it with accuracy and precision. He also enjoyed long rides through all parts of Elkton and McGaheysville, pointing out homes of long-ago relations or stomping grounds of his youth. 

Faron is survived by his companion, Beverly “Marie” Sipe; daughters, Kimberly Niccum and husband, Nathan, Billie Hilliard and husband, Joey, Aprile Sauer and husband, Eric; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Tammy Riel and husband, Rich, Stacy Baugher, Darrell Slye, Patti Hensley and husband, Jeff.

Faron truly loved his family. He treasured time spent with them. He enjoyed all occasions which allowed him to be close to those he loved. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with Pastor Carter Dean officiating. Burial will be private at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, in McGaheysville.

Family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.
