February’s high and low temperature more than 5 degrees warmer than 56-year average

STANLEY — The average afternoon high temperature for the month of February was 52.7 degrees, or 5.6 degrees above the 56-year average high temperature of 47.1 degrees. The average daily low temperature for the month was 32.7 degrees, or 5.3 degrees above the 56-year average low 27.4 degrees.

The mean temperature for February in the Page Valley was 42.7 degrees. The 56-year average mean temperature for February is 37.2 degrees. A difference of 5.5 degrees.

High temperatures for February climbed into the 60s on six days, the 50s on 13 days, the 40s on nine days and only in the 30s during one day of the month. The high for the month was 67 degrees on Feb. 26.

The warmest February on record was in 1976, where the average afternoon high was 59.1 degrees. The coldest February on record was in 1979, where the average afternoon high was only 34.5 degrees.

Low temperatures for the month were down into the 20s on 14 days, the 30s on eight days, the 40s on six days and in the 50s on one day during the month. The low for the month was 21 degrees on Feb. 25.

Snowfall for February 2024 was 2 inches, or 4.3 inches below the February average of 6.3 inches. Total snow for the winter of 2023-2024 in the Page Valley is 7.75 inches. The 56-year average total winter snowfall is 22.3 inches.

Total rain and snow melt for the month was 2.12 inches, or 0.36 inch below the February average of 2.48 inches. The wettest February in the Page Valley came in 1998, with 6.56 inches of rain and snow melt. The driest occurred in 1977, with only 0.37 inches of rain recorded.

The peak wind gust for the month was 45 mph on Feb. 28.

One record was broken during February 2024 — Feb. 10, maximum low temperature of 57 degrees; previous record of 43 degrees in 2020.

Other statistics for the month include:

  • 11 cloudy to mostly cloudy days (12 avg.)
  • Zero days with dew (one avg.)
  • 14 days with frost (seven avg.)
  • Zero days with fog (two avg.)
  • Zero days with a thundershower (zero avg.)
