Fire discovery

Luray museum

January 31, 1890 — Through what came near being a serious fire last Saturday night, Miss Lucy Broaddus, of this place, sustained the loss of a new gossamer and a handsome new dress.

These with some other articles of clothing had been hung upon a chair in Miss B.’s room, too near as the event proved, to the stove, and in her absence the servant made too hot a fire in the stove with the above result.

But for the timely discovery of the fire very much more serious results would have followed.
