Foster parents needed

During the month of April, Children’s Services of Virginia received an agency high of 96 referrals for children in need of a placement. As of the end of May, the agency had received a total of 394 referrals in comparison to the previous year of 310. In a two-year span, the agency has received over 1,600 referrals. The number of referrals continues to demonstrate the desperate need for foster families.

While all efforts are made to place children either in or close to their community, it is not always possible. As the number of children continue to enter foster care, the need for foster families continues to grow. Foster families are needed for all ages with a special emphasis on those who are able to accommodate sibling groups and foster parents who have a heart for serving older youth.

As a private agency, Children’s Services of Virginia is able to offer more individualized support to foster families and also opens families up to receive child placements outside of their local area. The agency offers a free, virtual information session that allows individuals to meet with staff and go over the steps and process involved in becoming a foster parent.

All foster parent training sessions are virtual and offered on a regular basis throughout the course of the year. Trainings are conducted utilizing a trauma informed approach along with real-life scenarios in an effort to best prepare families for future placements. All children who enter foster care have endured some form of trauma and the goal is to prepare families as best they can so that not only can the child succeed, but the foster family as well.

Children’s Services of Virginia would like to encourage individuals and families who have been thinking about becoming a foster parent to act now! Now is the time, to make a difference by being the difference!

If you are interested in taking that first step, there are children who need a home. For more information, please email treatmentfostercare@csv-inc.com or visit www.csv-inc.com
