Frightful runaway

September 19, 1887 — Last Sunday morning as Mr. W.C. Alther, accompanied by his wife, son and daughter, and Mr. Geo. Shenk, all seated in the carriage, were on their way to Berryville to church, the horse attached to the carriage from some cause became frightened and ran off. The carriage was run violently against a tree, throwing all of its occupants out upon the hard pike. Mr. Shenk, it was for some time thought, was fatally injured, but he recovered in a few hours. Mr. and Mrs. A. were badly bruised, and Mr. A.’s wrist fractured. The children escaped unhurt. Mr. A. in writing us an account of the affair, says that he was then confined to his bed as the result of his injuries.
