SHENANDOAH, April 15 — Senior Bailee Gaskins is known for her pitching. However, last season’s Region B and Bull Run District “Player of the Year” went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate against Clarke on Friday, April 26, including a grand slam that helped break the game open in the fourth inning.
Gaskins was solid inside the circle as well, striking out 12 of the 18 batters she faced in five innings. The right-hander only gave up one earned run, two hits and one walk.
However, it was her two home runs that really got the crowd going at Alan Knight Field. The Division II commit to Coker College belted a solo home run in the third and then rocketed a grand slam over the left field fence in the bottom of the fourth. Gaskins accounted for five of the Panthers’ 13 runs in the shortened, slaughter-rule game.
After trailing 1-0 in the first, Page County scored 10 runs in the fourth inning on Friday to end the game early and claim a 13-1 Bull Run victory. The Panthers have now won eight consecutive games and remain in a two-game lead of first place in the Bull Run District.
Through 14 games this season, the Page County Panthers softball team has outscored their opponents 164-23. Five games remain in the regular season, with four matchups in the Bull Run District.
