Former Page County standout hits over .400 and leads Cobras in home runs
~ PVN staff report
ROCK HILL, S.C. — As we wrap up spring sports, PVN’s “Athlete of the Week” proved to be difficult to choose this week. Several athletes received accolades at the end of the season highlighting their time on the field, from two region “Player(s) of the Year” to state champions in track. However, nearly all of those athletes have received previous mention on our pages and most were recognized in this very forum. So, we turn our attention to the collegiate level to highlight a Page County native that is excelling at the next level.

The South Atlantic Conference recently named Bailee Gaskins of Coker College as a third team all-conference selection in softball as a designated player. Gaskins, a sophomore out of Shenandoah, Va., appeared in 35 games for the Division II Cobras this season, batting .408 in 76 plate appearances with 31 hits. Gaskins led the team in home runs with four, adding two triples and 10 doubles to her stat sheet over the season. She also recorded 16 RBI and scored 13 runs, while sporting a slugging percentage of .750. Gaskins had a fantastic run in March and April, batting .542 in March and .560 in April. She made five appearances inside the circle this season, registering eight strikeouts through 11 innings.
During her freshman campaign, Gaskins appeared in 40 games and recorded 33 hits in 111 at-bats for a .297 batting average. She posted 26 RBI and scored 23 runs, while hitting 12 doubles, one triple and five home runs for a .559 slugging percentage. Gaskins had 18 appearances inside the circle and started 13 games, recording 63 strikeouts and two wins, while posting a 7.22 ERA.
In 2024, Gaskins graduated with honors from Page County High School with a 4.12 GPA, while earning Player of the Year in the Bull Run District and Region 2B, and all-state honors, all for for the second-straight year. The powerful right-hander set new records in the storied PCHS softball program for career strikeouts, innings pitched, no hitters and perfect games.
Baillee’s older brother, Mitchel, plays collegiate baseball for Division III Averett University in Danville, Va.
