Age 77, Shenandoah, Va.
Gloria Blanche McAlister Comer, 77, of Shenandoah, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the home of her son.
Mrs. Comer was born on June 1, 1946, in Shenandoah, and was a daughter of the late Harold and Freda (Good) McAlister. She retired from Wrangler/Blue Bell after 37 years. Blanche later worked as a custodian at the Shenandoah Elementary School for eight years.
She attended several churches locally. Blanche devoted her life to GOD and to the service of others. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her greatest love were her grandchildren.
On June 14, 1969, she married James C. “Pete” Comer, who survives.
In addition to her husband, Blanche is survived by her son, Brad Comer of Shenandoah; a brother, Joe McAlister and wife Carol Ann of Shenandoah; her beloved grandchildren, Hailey and Aidan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Francis McAlister, Arthur McAlister, Ruthie McAlister, John McAlister, Sam McAlister, Gail Comer, Jim McAlister, Willie McAlister, Arlena McLean, and Mitchell McAlister.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 10 at 11 a.m. at McAlister Family Cemetery near Shenandoah, with Pastor Jimmy Kite officiating.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 9 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
