September 27, 1986 — Dozens of volunteers from Baptist Men of Virginia are helping to rebuild the home of Hazel Judd on South Hawksbill Street in Luray which was devastated by last November’s flood.
The new home is being built next to the old one, which was moved more than a foot on its foundation. The shell of the new home was provided by the American Red Cross and all of the finishing work is being done by Baptist men from Berryville, Rileyville, Roanoke, Front Royal and Luray, said the Rev. Glenn Giles, pastor of Main Street Baptist Church in Luray. Plumbing work has been donated by Jim Burner of J. Rex Burner Co. Local groups are providing meals for workers at the site.
“I think the heart of the story is that we have people who care about people,” said Pastor Giles.
Mrs. Judd, who is retired from Luray Textile, raised 10 children in the Hawksbill Street home and now serves as a volunteer worker.
