February 8, 1987 — So you have had it with cabin fever. So what do you? Go climb a rock, ice and all. That’s how Jeff White of Oakton and Tom Kees of Ruckersville decided to enjoy a winter’s Saturday afternoon in Shenandoah National Park.
The pair braved howling winds and frigid temperatures to scale “glaciers” along the southern stretch of Skyline Drive molded from last week’s dual snowstorms. The visitors’ past ice-capades have included challenging different rock formations throughout the Park, including Lewis Mountain and White Oak Canyon.
It took each climber about 15 minutes to scale the rocks — and a few seconds to bound back down.
