Age 89, Lynchburg, Va.
Jeanette Menefee Cummins, 89, of Lynchburg, died at her home on Saturday, January 9, 2021 surrounded by those she loved. She was the loving wife of the late Roy Samuel Cummins for 46 years.
Born on December 10, 1931 in Rileyville, she was a daughter of the late Franklin Thomas and Fannie Bailey Menefee. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Jeanette was a 1949 graduate of Luray High School. After graduation she moved to Washington, D.C. and was employed as an underwriter for Geico Insurance Company for several years. When she and her husband Sam moved to Roanoke in 1971, Jeanette passed her enrolled agent exam for the IRS and spent 28 years working in the tax field.
Jeanette was an active member of her church choirs in both Roanoke and Lynchburg for many years. Her favorite hobbies were genealogy and watching any sport her grandson/best buddy Sam was involved in. We are grateful to Sam, without his assistance, and constant love for his grandmother, we would not have been able to choose to move her home in October and enjoy these last few months. They had a very special bond, there are no words to describe it.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Quintana (Ben) of Lynchburg; one grandson, Samuel Benjamin Quintana; one brother, Hanson J. Menefee (Bonnie) of Luray; one sister, Harriet Showalter (Jim) of Greenville, SC; and one sister-in-law, Jane Jones (Bill) of Greensboro, AL.
We would like to express our gratitude to both Gentle Shepherd Hospice and Boonsboro Volunteer Fire and Rescue for the many times they assisted us.
A private interment will take place at Timber Ridge ARP Church Cemetery in Lexington.
